Changing your Product Management job

Should you change your job? When is the best time to do that? Is it worth the stress? Here are 8 questions to consider before making a decision:

1) Are you enjoying yourself? — Having fun with the product and people you work with is almost a must not to suffer every day you go to work. I know I would die out of boredom with an API product — I like the thrill of seeing how users react to new (UX) features! If you are not having any fun, why waste time?

2) Can you afford the change? — Fun is one thing, but you need to survive. In an ideal world, you should never quit your job until you secure your next gig.

3) Do you believe in your product — You may have fun, but what if you lost the passion for what you do and all that you do is run a feature factory to justify the existence of your position, even though meaningful ideas have dried out ages ago? Maybe it’s time to put your talent elsewhere.

4) Do you have competent management? — Are you behind the people who run the company and act as an extension of their vision or quite the opposite: They are power-hungry idiots that mostly play politics? Those places are super toxic and need to be vacated asap

5) Are you learning anything? — If all you do is same old, same old and you barely learn anything new, it probably is a little boring…
