How do Products fail?

Do you know why InVision and Nokia failed and how you can avoid the same mistakes? Easy: Make sure you stay close to your users/clients and their needs. Here are 7 ways to do that:

1) Targeted user feedback
Nothing beats good old talk with people you are creating your products for! Whether you prepare a survey, organize a chat or interview with a selected group of users, or simply have a feedback area in your product, that will always be a great source of inspiration on where to take your product next. Watch out though — what vocal users ask for might not be what your typical client needs! Product Discovery is advised!

2) User Insights
Whether it’s a general rating, a rating of a new feature, or the ability to leave a comment about specific areas of the product, this is much more than surveys — it’s contextual and gives you targeted opinions. You can also gather them passively with heatmaps and by recording user navigation on your site.

3) Analytics
Measuring your product performance, A/B test, tracking product funnels with activation, and experimenting with prototypes is the key! Don’t let egos and opinions, let alone pride, guide your products! Let the data speak and lead you towards decisions that will ensure the longevity of your product!
