Is it even possible to get a fresher Product Manager job?
It can be so discouraging to learn that you need experience to land a Product Manager job, but you need a PM job to get experience. This is such a classic no-win scenario. However, there is a way to break this stupid cycle:
The short answer here is being able to demonstrate product experience without holding a formal PM role. Here’s the long version of how to achieve it:
1) Leverage Your Current Role
If you’re already working (in IT), start applying product management principles where you are. Frame your contributions in PM language. Did you solve a problem? Lead a project? Align stakeholders? Bonus points if you are already working with a PM and help/replace this person whenever you can.
2) Build Your Own Product or Service
You don’t need to code to create. Launch a social media account, app, game, blog, or YouTube channel with clear goals.
Use the PM loop: set hypotheses, experiment, learn, and adapt. Showcase the results as your product story during interviews.
3) Highlight Transferable Skills
Project management, design, data analysis, or even customer service. These roles build skills that…
