MVP — Minimum Viable Product — What is it really and what are the common misconnections?

Recently, while browsing LinkedIn, this post from a recognized Product authority caught my eye:

Frankly, I found this super misleading for any aspiring Product Manager. How to interpret this, hopefully, throw-away post? Is there a time limit on creating an MVP — Minimum Viable Product? Resource limit?

I wouldn’t say so.

Let’s look at it in detail, shall we?

What is the goal of an MVP?

The MVP is a version of a Product that can confirm or disprove your Product hypothesis. That is the truest definition I know. However, it leaves a lot of space for (wrong) interpretation. Especially since there is an emphasis on speed and low cost of delivery (that probably can come from not understanding what an MVP is!).

That’s why it’s so difficult to get it right and to interpret the “viable” in the name right! Let’s look at the word’s definition in the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
